Database design

Definition database design

The planning and development of a database is called database design. The structure of a relational database is hereby usually modeled through an Entity-Relationship-Diagram.

Required memory space

The required memory space of a database essentially depends on the data volume of the individual tables. When adding the volumes of all tables, the required space for all data to be memorized in the database results. In addition, 10-50 % more memory space is usually required for the structures for the administration of the database.

Malfunction and availability

In case of a malfunction of a system component, this component is replaced and the operation is continued after the installation of a data backup. If the system is supposed to stay independent of the malfunction of individual components in its availability, this can be guaranteed through a redundant equipment of all system components.
